STUDENTS MAY ARRIVE AT 7:25  BREAKFAST BEGINS AT 7:25  CLASS BEGINS 7:45 AND DISMISSES AT 2:25.

Student safety is our number one priority at Highland Park. Over the summer, the Roanoke City School Board and Roanoke City Council approved an ordinance that decreases the speed limit from 25 mph to 15 mph in certain neighborhood school zones in the City.  For Highland Park, this impacts 5th Street, Walnut Avenue, and Albemarle Avenue.  The new speed limit will be in effect during arrival and dismissal of school.  Please reduce your speed and watch for children when passing through school zones.

Among everything we do, it is important that we practice arrival and dismissal procedures that protect our students.  Students may arrive at school after 7:25.  All car riders must be dropped off on either side of 5th Street.  On the school side of the street, please pull forward toward Albemarle as much as possible to keep the flow of cars moving smoothly.  All walkers must enter through the Walnut Avenue entrance.  To keep walkers safe, there is NO PARKING on Walnut Avenue near the school and students may not be let out as car riders on Walnut.  Bus riders will enter on Albemarle Avenue.  Please always be aware of all traffic signs around the school.  Note the traffic patterns on the map below.

Note that all transportation change requests must be made in writing.  When notes are received in the office, a transportation change form will then be provided to the teacher and student.  No student will be permitted to leave with another student or adult without written consent.  We cannot accept transportation changes over the phone as we have no way of verifying the caller.
