The Highland Park Book Bus is in action again.  It runs Monday evenings from now until July 18th.  The stops are as follows:

7:00pm  at Cherry Hill

7:20pm at 5th and Gilmer

7:40pm at the Highland Park Elementary back parking lot.


Friday, August 19th

Orientations:

  • Preschool 9:00 AM @ Highland Park

  • Kindergarten 10:00 AM @ Highland Park

  • PLATO- Meet and Greet 12:00-1:00 PM at the Highland Park Playground across the street from the school.

Open House:

  • For all new and returning students 1:00-3:00 PM

 

The Highland Park Staff, PTA, and Congregations In Action sponsor this annual summertime event.  Our wish is for kids to have access to books during the summer on a regular basis.  We want to connect with the students and their families during the summer, and have them discover and enjoy reading for pleasure!




PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING AT AN EVENT!

About Us

Welcome to Highland Park!  Our school has undergone many changes since opening as Park School in 1908.  Today, we serve Old Southwest, Downtown Roanoke and the Gainsboro neighborhoods along with a portion of Southeast Roanoke.  Highland Park is also home to one of the two PLATO centers for Roanoke City Schools, serving gifted and talented students from South and Southwest Roanoke schools.  Academic excellence is part of our mission at Highland and we strive to help all students reach their potential.  In 2015, Highland Park was recognized by the Virginia Board of Education with the VIP Distinguished Achievement Award for continuous growth in student achievement.  Besides a focus on academics, Highland provides many opportunities for student exploration, including Spanish, Dance Espanol, VH1 Strings, Odyssey of the Mind and Happy Healthy Cooks.  Students may also participate in after school experiences through our 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs, Running Club, Chess Club, Dance or Garden Clubs.  We are very fortunate to have two community groups that support Highland Park, our PTA and CIA (Congregations in Action), who provide Pack-a-Snack meals, Fun Day, field trip scholarships and classroom resources for teachers.  Highland is a vibrant, diverse, engaged learning community and we are delighted to provide the highest quality education to all of our families.
